Terms and definitions

Here are definitions of some of the terms that are mentioned in the website.

What is fixture design?

Design of a specialized tool or device to hold, support, or secure a workpiece during machining, assembly, inspection, or any other manufacturing process.

Teamcenter

A comprehensive product lifecycle management (PLM) software developed by Siemens Digital Industries Software

CMM

Coordinate Measuring Machine. It is a precision measuring device used in manufacturing and quality control processes to assess the dimensions, positions, and geometrical characteristics of objects.

PLC

Programmable Logic Controller. It is a specialized industrial computer used for automation and control systems in manufacturing and industrial environments.

Optical measurement system

The in-line inspection system for complex components. It offers
fully digital, precise and reliable measurement of all features on all parts in real-time.

Clamp

A device used for holding, securing, or clamping objects in various applications, such as machining, welding, or assembly processes.

Valve Terminal (Pneumatic)

A centralized unit that houses multiple pneumatic valves used to control the flow of fluids in a manufacturing or processing environment.

Twist Measurement

The quantification of rotational deformation that occurs in a chassis component under the influence of internal moments or torsion.

Siemens NX

A comprehensive and integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing, and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) software suite.

Pneumatic Cylinder

A mechanical device that uses the power of compressed air to generate force and motion.

I/O Block

Input/Output block or module. It is a component that facilitates the connection of input and output signals between a control system(PLC) and the external devices or sensors.

Some parts of a car’s chassis

Subframe

A structural component that is separate from the main chassis but is designed to support and attach to specific vehicle systems. It is essentially a secondary frame or structure within the overall chassis framework of a car.

Battery tray

A component designed to securely hold and support the vehicle’s battery.

CCB (Cross Car Beam)

Cross car beam is a structural component that runs horizontally across the vehicle, behind the steering wheel, and is the backbone of the instrument panel.

Underbody

The lower part of the vehicle’s structure, including the frame, floor pan, and various components located beneath the body of the car.

Rear axle

A critical component that connects the rear wheels to the vehicle’s body or frame.

Biw (Body in White)

The stage in automotive manufacturing where a car’s body structure is assembled but does not yet have any components or subsystems installed.
